"DPR"
Deposit Purchase Reservation
for
Golden Retriever Pup Adoption
(Revised as of Apr, 2022)
Email us for a Current Flyer:
(Please Note: Deposits may only be made only based on a current flyer emailed to you. Do not rely on the web site for availability)
Process Summary for making a DPR:
(See full terms following below)
01. ONLY make a DPR based on information in a current "Flyer" sent to you, and that you verify with us via email. ANY deposits made without first contacting us first to confirm availability may be completely forfeited. At a minimum, is such case, a minimum of $200 will be deducted from any deposit refund.
02. By making any DPR, you are stipulating that you have asked any questions you may have, and that you are making an informed decision, with due diligence, to your complete satisfaction, prior to your making this DPR payment.
03. Any questions AFTER a DPR is made, will be responded to after we receive your information from the 1st "INFO" email sent to you after receiving the initial DPR; usually within a week or so. (See more on initial emails below).
04. Initial Deposit of the DPR is $500 made via Zelle or Cash; a check on rare occasions (and will offset any pick position preference until it clears).
05. IF the 1st deposit was PRE-whelp - a 2nd deposit of $500 via Zelle is due within a week after pups are whelped. IF the 1st deposit is POST-whelp - a 2nd deposit of $500 via Zelle is due within 10 days of the 1st. Please do not combine both deposits into one payment.
06. Total of $1000 DPR constitutes the Deposit for the DPR
07. Balance of $800 (see current emailed flyer) is due in cash at pickUP of pup.
(Balance may be paid via Zelle via 2 equal payments of $500 each at 1 and 2 weeks prior to pickUP)
08. Total pup cost $1800 (see current emailed flyer)
09. Please do indicate a sex and litter preference (see possible parents / litters below, limited to those indicated available for a DPR on a current "Flyer" sent to you). However we can't guarantee either. We may be able to transfer your DPR, up to one year*, if we have more DPR's than pups, and if the first availability of a pup for you DPR is not your "firm" preference - this does not apply related to any "desired" pick position. Pup pick positions and sex will only be assigned after our preliminary scheduling is done between approximately 2 to 5 weeks age. Position and sex availability for each DPR is determined by several factors - sex preference; when a DPR was made; how many pups are available, and when each person is able to be scheduled to pickUP a pup. A DPR only guarantees a pup, not sex, pick position, nor mating of a specific pair of parents (you will know probable parents upon making a DPR.)
010. By making the initial DPR, you are committing to following through with the 2nd DPR and adopting a pup from us, with the cash balance due at PickUP at approximately pup age of 8 weeks.
Please specify your preferred litter and sex based on the following and in conjunction with a current flyer:
Golden Retriever Parents:
Litter Dams: (M) Snowflake (English Cream); (M) Masha (English Cream); (B) Brandy (Dark Golden)
Litter Sires: (M) MooseE (Dark Golden); (R) Rufus (English Cream)
Possible litter match-ups as of October 15, 2021 - (indicate preference ONLY based on a current flyer)
English Cream Pups - (PM) Pepper / MooseE
Dark Golden Pups - (BM) Brandy / MooseE
Sex preference - Either-"e", Male-"m", Female-“f”
AFTER WE RECEIVE YOUR INTIIAL DPR:
You will receive a semi-automated confirmation response from us consisting of 1 of 8 email. Then, the remaining 2 through 6 of 8 emails will follow usually within about a week. 7 and 8 of 8 are sent roughly at pup age of 6 to 7 weeks.

2 of 8: Formal DPR Confirmation
3 of 8: The “Process"
4 of 8: Getting Started

Deposit Purchase Reservation (DPR),
Full Terms:
1) General Terms:
A) All correspondence will be to us via grpupp@gmail.com; and, from you the Buyer, must be from one (1) email address.
B) All matters, deposits, reservations, contracts are agreed by both parties to be made in, and under the legal jurisdiction of, Nevada County, California; and/or, the jurisdiction where we currently reside.
C) No checks after pups are 5 weeks old. Cash only if making a DPR while visiting us.
D) All dates and parents throughout our website and/or emails, especially in flyers, are rough and not guaranteed.
1. We just can’t know exactly until pups are actually here and you will need to be flexible when making a reservation. We try to, and do, get the dates close most of the time, but it can be plus or minus a month or so.
2. A particular mating between parents is not guaranteed for similar reasons; potentially more likely to vary with the age of the parents; and of course, the number of pups in a litter which we don’t have any control of.
3. A DPR is actually a purchase of documents, our time, books, proprietary information, and primarily guarantees a reservation for a pup from us. Making a deposit is a comitment - from you, indicating an irrevocable reservation and to pay the additional amount for adopting a pup; and, from us, to provide a pup to you, for that additional amount, from two of our golden retriever parents, with terms, conditions, and exceptions as specified following.
E) By making a DPR, you do so willingly, are agreeing to all terms on this page, and attest that you have researched our goldens, reviewed the information provided on our web site regarding all aspects of adopting a pup, including their health and care. You have asked for and contacted any references if desired, and asked any questions of us prior making a decision and committing to adopt a pup by making a DPR. You understand that once a deposit is made, it is generally only refundable if a pup is not available - see “2)” below.
F) All of our parents are AKC registered, and the males are DNA tested and recorded as required by AKC. Adoption of our pups are intended to be as pets and companions and are not for breeding or showing. They can only initially be registered as "AKC limited". A possibility of breeding is at our discretion. See "AKC Puppy Registration” below, on this page.
2) Payments, general:
A) Payments consist of two (2) DPR payments constituting the total DPR, and a final cash balance when a pup is picked up. This is detailed above. as indicated above.
Exception(s): Multiple Pups, Kenneling a pup, Transfers
1. Multiple pups
a. a final balance due is reduced as indicated below under "multiple pups discount"
b. one-half the final balance due must be received via cash or check when the pups are 5 weeks old. An invoice will be sent out a few days prior to this.
2. Kenneling a pup
When we are kenneling a pup for you after the "normal pickUP timing" of 8 weeks old (or sooner if the majority of the other pups' pickUP is sooner), any remaining balance, including the cost of kenneling, must be received via cash or check. An invoice will be sent out a few days prior to this.
3. Transferring a DPR
a. Transfers may occur, at our discretion, within one (1) year of the original expected or actual whelping date of our anticipated applicable litter for a particular DPR.
b. Both DPR's must be paid prior to a allowed transfer
c. The final balance due at the new transferred pickUP date may increase, subject to our current cost of a pup at the time of the new pickUP timing.
d. Only one (1) transfer, for any reason, allowed per initial DPR
Exception(s): If the transfer is due to not enough pups in any litter, within the one year time frame
3) Refunds / Transfers / Cancellations
A) Refunds
1. Deposits are refundable if there is no litter or not enough pups, and then only if we do not have another similar litter due within one (1) year of the original expected or actual whelping date of our anticipated applicable litter for a particular DPR; otherwise, deposits are generally non-refundable. Failure to make the 2nd deposit may be considered forfeiture of your reservation and deposit.
2. If a refund is considered, there is a minimum of $100 that is non-refundable regardless of any reason, timing of reservation, etc
If you cancel a pup reservation for any reason, at any time, the deposit is non-refundable. This is further detailed below, and referenced to these full terms in most every email to you.
3. No refund will be given; nor a cancellation allowed, due to not receiving any "pick position” desired, due a pup not having the anticipated parents, or due to the timing of a litter, and/or any similar representations given to you at any time during the course of our communications shall not be considered contractual obligations.
4. We we are only representing that you are reserving a pup from us with an initial anticipated pick position and time period, and though from an anticipated pair, a pup may be from any pair of our on-site breeding AKC registered Golden Retriever parents that our also our pets and companions.
5. Any refund, IF allowed, may be via any method at our discretion, regardless of any original method used by you.
B) Transfers
We realize sometimes circumstances happen, or that relate to timing issues in adopting a pup from the anticipated litter. Also, as indicated above, it is possible, though rare, for no litter, or too few pups.
1. While we cannot refund a deposit, we can sometimes, at our discretion, and depending on the circumstances, transfer your DPR to a subsequent similar, or different litter, due within one (1) year of the original expected or actual whelping date of our anticipated applicable litter for a particular DPR.
2. If there are no subsequent litters planned, due, or with available pups in this time period, we will consider a refund, only if there were not enough pups - either sex, or no litter.
3. If there was a pup available to you of your preferred sex, from the anticipated litter for your DPR, there is a charge of $200 to transfer.
a. In such case, you may not receive the same pick position. And, as indicated above, the cost of a pup may increase.
b. No transfer charge if no litter or NOT enough total pups, either sex.
c. When there is a deposit transfer charge, you will need to pay the transfer charge via Zelle, due within 3 days of an email confirming the transfer.
d. When there is no transfer charge, just an email is sent documenting the transfer.
4. If a pup is available in a litter transferred to, regardless of “pick position”, and of the same kind and sex originally desired, no transfer is allowed for any reason. No refund is allowed in such case either.
C) What may happen to your DPR when another DPR in the same litter as yours is cancelled or transferred
1. the breeder reserves the right to find a replacement reservation for that same pick position that becomes available in such a case.
2. A replacement may also be found from another DPR from a different litter which might affect your pick position if that DPR was made earlier than yours.
3. If a replacement DPR in such case is not received by the time of pickUP, picking MAY be changed to your benefit, depending on circumstances. This might affect the sex choice available and pick order of your reservation, and is at our sole descretion.
D) Cancellations
1. Right to Cancel: Only we reserve the right to cancel a DPR (very rare) for cause
a. when we feel there has been misinformation given on your part
b. communication with you that is contrary to terms such as timing, pup choice position, general miscommunication by you, etc.
1) This is determined at our sole discretion
2) may result in a full, partial, or no, refund.
3) Misleading us as to who you are or purpose of adopting a pup
4) If you do not provide all the basic information as requested in our “1 of 8” initial email; and, if after requesting complete information, a second time, it is not provided, this may be considered grounds for cancellation.
D) Forfeiture of Deposit
Generally, very rarely, a DPR may be forfeited for any issues that occur, or that are claimed, for purposes of not following through with a reservation by you, once a DPR is made.
1. your not doing due diligence prior to making a deposit reservation
2. changing your mind
3. finding a different pup or parents, etc.
4. not wanting to transfer to another litter within a year, as indicated above, for any reason; or, due to not getting a pick position you were anticipating.
5. a DPR is made without first confirming availability; and/or, there end up not being enough pups (or the sex desired) in the subject litter, without confirming availability.
6. Life Issues: While we understand some extreme family issues can occur, and you feel there is the need of deciding not to, or not being able to, follow through with an adoption, we cannot allow a cancellation or refund in such case, but perhaps can work with you on a transfer with a fee, depending on the circumstances.
7. No Response: Unfortunately, we’ve had this happen! Not responding to our emails in a timely fashion may (may) result in your reservation cancelled / forfeited; and/or, a change in your pick order.
a. Please let us know if you will be unavailable for any period of time after you reserve a pup!
b. Generally, if we haven’t heard back from you within 2-4 weeks after sending out any emails indicating an update to the litter’s status, timing, birth, etc. to you, and/or to all adoptees including yourself, or specifically to you, regarding a specific litter you reserved a pup from we may (may) consider your reservation abandoned.
c. We may rely solely on email contact with you. Non response to general informational emails is not included in this, though confirmation of receipt of anything we send out is appreciated
d. Update requests from you at least once a month ARE expected.
e. We will only wait up to 8 days for a response from you starting when the pups are up to 1 week old; and, 1 day less for each week we do not hear from you.
f. When pups are 4 weeks old, and we have not heard from you within 3 days of our effort to contact you, your reservation may be cancelled, and deposit forfeited.
4) Multiple Pups Discount
A) Conditional discount
1. $150 Discount, $75 for each pup, when reserving two pups from the same litter
a. Litter must not be, or have been, fully reserved at time of your DPR
b. If the litter IS, turns to have been, fully reserved prior to whelping, there is only ($100) total discount for multiple pups.
2. $100 Discount for Two pups from different litters
3. Once a litter is whelped, for mult pups DPR, DPR's are not refundable for any reason.
5) Picking (Choice) / PickUP:
A. Pick Position: Please note that NorCal Goldens reserves the right to 1st pick male and/or female of any litter. This may affect any pick position indicated by us to anyone reserving a pup. A pick position indicated by us is NOT a promise or guarantee of that pick position.
1. If we choose to exercise this right, we don't do this until the pups are about 7 weeks old. This doesn't happen often.
B. Scheduling: At around 4-6 weeks, we will schedule with everyone their picking / pickUP timing. At scheduling, you will have your pick position confirmed. See notes above about approximate indication of pick position upon making a deposit reservation.
C. Combined: We combine picking and pickUP so that there is only one (1) trip required for both picking and pickUP. You will see all the pups interact in the various videos we post as they age.
1. We discourage visits prior to picking/pickUP due to health precautions and their socialization process. If you really need to do this for some reason, we will try to accommodate, depending on what your need is. We do post videos approximately each week of development with colored collars on them at about 3-1/2 weeks, so you can get a pretty good idea of who’s who.
D. PickUP time: We have found the timing needed for picking / pickUP is usually a maximum of an hour, and we schedule everyone based on that. Most only take 20-40 minutes. This allows for reviewing any questions you may have about anything, taking care of the contract an payment, meeting us and the pups parents and sometimes grandparents; and interacting with the pups.
1. If for some reason you feel you need more time, we will make sure you reasonably get the time needed; and, though it is rare, ask everyone on pickUP day for patience, as sometimes people can also be late due to traffic or weather.
E. PickUP days: Thursdays and Fridays are usually great days to pickUP as it gives you the full weekend to get settled in. We realize most everyone works and this may not be possible, but keep this in mind if you are able to take a day off. Otherwise, pickUPs are usually on a Saturday, spread out to a Sunday afternoon if there are a lot of pups; and, so the pups don't get quite as worn out.
F. PickUP: is at, or close to, 8 weeks of age. May be subject to size of litter; e.g., small litters may go a few days earlier; larger ones sometimes stay a bit longer; subject to our discretion.
1. If you can't pickUP on or within a day or two of the general pickUP timing; Kennel charges may have to be charged, as well as additional cost of shot(s) and worming(s), depending on the pups age. We understand that sometimes people have a vacation already planned, and we can usually arrange a stay of about a week, but we do usually have to charge for this.
2. Kenneling with us is however generally discouraged - the sooner they can get with their "new human", the better they will bond. Prime bonding time is between 7-16 weeks. Kenneling may also depend on our schedule and space availability.
6) Disputes:
A. Jurisdiction / Venue: Any party related to making this Deposit Purchase Reservation shall be considering having entered into the above agreement in the current locational jurisdiction in which this business lies, at the time of a dispute. It is agreed by any party that any and all disputes arising from this agreement shall only be resolved in a court within that jurisdiction, the Small Claims Division of that court.
1. All parties understand that the above agreement covers only the Deposit Purchase Reservation and a separate agreement will be entered into by both parties for adoption and purchase of a pup. The purchaser will have an opportunity to review their specific contract agreement, emailed to them (email 8 of 8) when the pup is 6 to 7 weeks old. This agreement will have its own specific terms, related to your personal pup adoption, and includes expanded dispute resolution terms, pertaining to your actual purchase of a pup.
7) Kenneling:
Please note that it is very rare that we can offer this! We have in the past up to a couple of weeks, but it is very hard, if even possible.
Kennel per day fees start the last day of the 2 to 3 day "normal pickUP timing" when pups are approximately 8 weeks old, as follows:
(days are noon to noon, or any portion thereof)
1. 1st 5 days - $35/day; 6-10 days - $40/day; 11+ days - $45/day
2. Shot or Worming (required at 9 & 12 weeks old if here being kenneled): $35/ea
Kuranda Dog Bed (We use these for both our adults and pups from about 4 weeks of age)
See recommended options below. They ARE chewproof!. Helps prevent joint issues also.

Size: Medium (35x23) ... fits in a Life Stages 24x36 crate, which is what all our adults use.
Material: Heavy duty 40 oz vinyl
Frame: Almond (only color good for outdoors) - PVC (they have Aluminum, but expensive)
With Adoption of your pup, we provide:
Puppy Package at pickUP:
1) about 2-3 quarts (large gallon zip lock) of the Taste of the Wild / Nature's Domain Puppy food MIX for approximately 2-5 days of feeding. The mix is as follows:
This is a 3-part MIX of Taste of the Wild "Pacific Stream" (Salmon) AND Taste of the Wild "High Prairie" (Venison & Bison) AND Costco's Nature's Domain "Chicken & Pea Puppy". We do this mix so you can use any ONE of these; or, the actual mix as we use it.
We also usually give them a small tasting once in awhile of one or more flavors of the Nature’s Domain, all life stages, food from Costco while they are here.
2) 2-3 wee-wee pads for your trip home; or, your initial time at home
3) a new tennis ball - the pups and mom usually have a few they have played with, but it is better to start off "clean"!
4) a new 10" to 12" knotted rope. Similarly, at least one of these is sometimes left in with the pups, but it again is better to start off clean.
5) Two (2) 200 + page color Golden Retriever Book(s) covering Grooming, Training, Health Care, First Aid, Nutrition & Feeding as a downloadable pdf after you make a deposit reservation
6) lots of information, experience, and recommendations; follow-up contact if needed - email best.
7) our web site that we keep updating with information. The web site, emails, and your contract will have anything documented that we discuss with you about your pup adoption - as well a lot of photos & videos.
8) We provide hard copies of the AKC Parents' AKC registrations and pedigrees at pickUP. These are AKC registerable pups (subject to our conditions listed in “AKC Puppy Registration” information below and the time limits of AKC). It is only initially limited registration; again, see below under "AKC Puppy Registration".
In Addition:
1) Proven quality in raising and adopting our pups since 2000
2) Gorgeous pup coat colors ranging from:
A) Light / English Cream - both dam & sire pure English Cream;
B) "Mocha Cream” (though typically virtually identical to Light English Cream) - dam is english cream & sire is a dark golden - pups start out with a "creamy peach/apricot" highlighting, but usually turn mostly english cream (lighten);
C) Dark Golden - both dam & sire are dark goldens - pups are generally dark with some ending up the deep dark red golden that is highly sought after - unfortunately, hard to come by!
3) Coats range from thicker, though flatter than "normal" (english creams), to a less thick, shiny flat coat (dark goldens)
A) ALL our coats tend to have less shedding than the AKC standard medium golden you will see in most AKC events. The dark goldens tend to have the least shedding.
4) We have on-site parents and some grandparents, even a GREAT grandparent (Rufus right now - 13 plus years!) Some are retired with other homes (unfortunately we can't keep every one of our adults), but any that are here can be viewed, ears scratched, and tennis balls thrown for! - these are our pets and get 24/7 pampering
5) Written health guarantee - see our health page(s) on our web site for more information
6) Shots / Worming: we give them two (1) Parvo-only shot at approximately 5 weeks and a 5-way shot at 7 weeks of age and they generally pups should have an additional 5 or 7-way shot every 2 -3 weeks thereafter, up to age 16 weeks. They are also given 2 to 3 5-day wormings/parasite treatments at approximately 3, 4, and 6 weeks and/or as needed. All this is documented for you on your contract for your records and so your vet knows what and when they were medicated.
7) Health - Many of the relatives of our parents, grandparents, and further back have OFA & CERF in their backgrounds / history for eyes, heart, elbows, hips; several pups that our adoptees have gone on to breed have gotten OFA or CERF certifications. NONE of our parents have had any problems, and NO Cancer, since breeding / adoptions started in 2000. Do see our health page(s) on our web site for more information about this to understand the very confusing and questionable meaning that many other breeders use of ANY “certification(s)” and why we do not engage in this but have been able to rely on the history of our golden parents.
8) Pups have mellow & obedient backgrounds as well as some with the additional hunting background - mostly from our darker parents. Generally bred for mellow temperament and obedience; great with kids and other pets. With other pets, you do need to cautiously introduce each other and it may take some time.
9) Standard breed size to a bit smaller, leaner, and muscular / low-fat body build on both parents; darker goldens especially can be a bit smaller with our two smaller female dams - Jasper & Mattie.
10) Male sires are DNA tested and registered with AKC for your assurance of the AKC and ancestral lineage of the pups you are adopting
11) Family raised and well socialized with our three (3) kids and other dogs; and, as well - two "golden retriever tormenting" cats.
12) We also do specific socialization similarly based on Socialization methods explained by Carmen L Battaglia - see article at this website: https://breedingbetterdogs.com/article/early-neurological-stimulation
13) PARTIALLY to MOSTLY HOUSEBROKEN!!! No, this isn't guaranteed, but we've had fantastic reports when the setup we have at our kennel is recreated as best as possible at their new home. We provide information on how to do this the best way to achieve this result with illustrations and photos sent after making a reservation. They are usually well on their way to being potty trained. We raise the pups from day 1 to reinforce housebreaking routines.
14) Follow-up care instructions including modified crate training and basic obedience training included on the web site
15) Note: We do NOT remove dew claws - how would you like one of your fingernails yanked out at 3 days old!!! This is NOT required by AKC for any showing or otherwise. It has become less common. Some reasons for this relate to hunting and field training. Sometimes, if the dew claw grows abnormally, it may have to be removed later - VERY uncommon! God made 'em this way - we adopt 'em out the way He made 'em!
16) As a breeder under the USDA "Animal Welfare Act" we are classified as an "Exempt Business" - Anyone who sells domestic pets directly to pet owners is exempt, regardless of sales volume, when picked up face to face or may be sight-unseen when the breeder has 4 or fewer breeding females. Such sales can be made via internet, in person, or by mail. Other state regulations may apply and more information on this is provided to or reviewed by you, with your contract as required and applicable.
AKC Puppy Registration:
1) Each puppy adoptee is provided at pickUP with the AKC pedigrees and registration numbers of the parents as proof of the pups being purebred from AKC parents and showing their lineage for 3-5 years. This is also what you get when / if you were to register your pup with AKC, sometimes in a different format than what we provide. The main reasons for AKC registration of your pup is usually for showing or breeding and 90-95 percent of our adoptees do not register their pups.
2) We may provide an AKC puppy registration form for registering your pup with "limited" registration (meaning a "pet" - not intended for show or breeding). This would occur when it is neutered or spayed after it is in your home at the earliest of approximately 14 months age.
There is a fee of $230 per pup (payable to grpupp@gmail.com via Zelle). You are responsible for any other AKC registration fees, payable directly to AKC, when you register your pup. We will forward your pup limited registration form once the litter is registered with AKC and we receive back the registration forms.
3) If you desire an AKC registration form for your pup, it must be requested with proof of spaying or neutering at this timing. We may provide a pup limited registration form once the litter is registered with AKC and we receive back the registration forms. Note this process can take a few days, or a month or more.
4) If full registration for breeding is desired; or, limited registration for some reason for your particular pup (e.g., the pup becoming a service dog), the same request must be made; however, you must have conveyed and discussed this interest with us in emails, prior to reserving your pup.
In the case for breeding, a pup is still initially given limited registration as indicated above. Full registration may be given pending favorable comprehensive health tests at 24 - 26 months of age. Full Registration / Breeding rights, if granted, do require additional breeder fees, the cost of changing the limited to full registration, medical costs, etc.; and are the responsibility of the Buyer in order to obtain full registration and/or to breed. A pup suitable for breeding is not guaranteed, and full registration may be denied by the breeder for any or no reason and/or pending any information deemed questionable by the breeder related to breeding your specific pup.
All terms related to AKC registration are subject to change with current terms at the time of desired registration. Any registration is not guaranteed and subject to the discretion of the breeder.
5) Our ONLY affiliation with AKC, as with most Breeders, is utilizing them as a registration service which provides you, the adoptees, proof of pedigree (being a purebred golden) and lineage (their ancestry); and, the opportunity if desired to possibly register your pup, or move on to show or breed with AKC.
We do not have any AKC "kennel name" nor does AKC have any obedience, lineage, health, testing, certification, or similar requirements to "just" breed and register any pups from dogs that are registered with them. AKC does have various "programs" that breeders can join which generally paints themselves as faux "professional breeders". We do not subscribe to any of these. Our goldens are our family members as well, we are not in this to gain notoriety or breed "designer goldens”.
Our 20 plus years of doing this with lots of referrals and 2nd and 3rd pups adopted by previous adoptees says we are doing something right!.
The only AKC requirements for basic breeding registration purposes are that the dams and sires must be AKC registered in order to register pups from any litter; and, a sire that is bred for 4 or more litters must have an AKC DNA test number. We DO meet both these requirements for all our parents.
