Golden Retriever Pup Adoption
Deposit Purchase Reservation (DPR)
(Revised as of Nov, 2024)
Email us for a Current Flyer:
Email: grpupp@gmail.com
(Please Note: Deposits may only be made only based on a current flyer emailed to you. Do not rely on the web site for availability)
Process Summary for making a DPR:
(See full terms following below)
01. ONLY make a DPR based on information in a current "Flyer" sent to you, and that you verify with us via email.
02. By making any DPR, you are stipulating that you have asked any questions you may have, and that you are making an informed decision, with due diligence, to your complete satisfaction, prior to your making this DPR payment.
03. Initial Deposit of the DPR is $600 made via Zelle or Cash. Note, we can take a check but this may offset any pick position preference until it clears.
04. IF the 1st deposit was PRE-whelp - a 2nd deposit of $600 via Zelle is due within a week after pups are whelped.
IF the 1st deposit is POST-whelp - a 2nd deposit of $500 via Zelle is due within 10 days of the 1st. Please do not combine both deposits into one payment.
05. Total of $1200 DPR constitutes the Deposit for the DPR
06. Balance of $600 (or see current emailed flyer) is due in cash at pickUP of pup.
07. Total pup cost $1800 (or see current emailed flyer)
08. Please do indicate a sex and litter preference (if more than one litter is indicated on a current "Flyer" sent to you). Pup pick positions and sex will only be assigned after our preliminary scheduling is done between approximately 2 to 6 weeks age. Position and sex availability for each DPR is determined by several factors - sex preference; when a DPR was made; how many pups are available, and when each person is able to be scheduled to pickUP a pup. A DPR only guarantees "a pup”.
09. By making the initial DPR, you are committing to following through with the 2nd DPR and adopting a pup from us, with the cash balance due at PickUP at approximately pup age of 8 weeks.
Please specify your preferred litter and sex based on the following and in conjunction with a current flyer:
Golden Retriever Parents:
Litter Dams: (B) Brandy (Dark Golden) (M) Mocha (English Cream); (R) Ruby (Dark Golden)
Litter Sires: (M) MooseE (Dark Golden); (R) Rufus Jr (English Cream)
Possible litter match-ups as of November 15, 2024:
Dark Golden Pups - (BM) Brandy / MooseE
Medium to Dark Golden Pups - (MM) Mocha / MooseE
Darker to Dark Golden Pups - (RR) Ruby / Rufus Jr
Sex preference - Either-"e", Male-"m", Female-“f”
AFTER WE RECEIVE YOUR INTIIAL DPR:
You will receive a DPR confirmation response from us including an info section for you to fill out for us. Once this info is received, another email with several sections of a LOT of information for you about raising a pup is sent out, including a couple of pdf books you can download.
Around 6 to 7 weeks we send out an email with a contract for you to review and send back signature pages via email. There is full detail in that email how to do this.

You have asked for and contacted any references if desired, and asked any questions of us prior making a decision and committing to adopt a pup by making a DPR. You understand that once a deposit is made, it is generally only refundable if a pup is not available - see “2)” below.
E) All parents are AKC registered. males are DNA tested through AKC. Pup adoption is only intended to be as pets and companions; not for breeding or showing. They can only initially be registered as "AKC limited". A possibility of breeding is at our discretion. See "AKC Puppy Registration” below.
2) Payments, general:
A) Payments consist of two (2) DPR payments constituting the total DPR, and a final cash balance when a pup is picked up. This is detailed above. as indicated above.
Exception(s): Multiple Pups, Kenneling a pup, Transfers
1. Multiple pups

An invoice will be sent out a few days prior.
3. Transferring a DPR
a. Transfers may occur, at our discretion, within one (1) year of the original expected or actual whelping date of our anticipated applicable litter for a particular DPR.
b. Both DPR's must be paid prior to a allowed transfer
c. The final balance due at the new transferred pickUP date may increase, subject to our current cost of a pup at the time of the new pickUP timing.
3) Refunds / Transfers / Cancellations
A) Refunds
1. Deposits are refundable if there is no litter or not enough pups, and then only if we do not have another similar litter due within one (1) year of the original expected or actual whelping date of our anticipated applicable litter for a particular DPR; otherwise, deposits are generally non-refundable. Failure to make the 2nd deposit may be considered forfeiture of your reservation and deposit.
2. If a refund is considered, there is a minimum of $100 that is non-refundable regardless of any reason, timing of reservation, etc
If you cancel a pup reservation for any reason, at any time, the deposit is non-refundable. This is further detailed below, and referenced to these full terms in most every email to you.
3. No refund will be given; nor a cancellation allowed, due to not receiving a particular "pick position” represented or desired, or due to the timing of a litter.
B) Transfers
We realize sometimes circumstances happen, or that relate to timing issues in adopting a pup from the anticipated litter. Also, as indicated above, it is possible, though rare, for no litter, or too few pups.
1. While we cannot refund a deposit, we can sometimes, at our discretion, and depending on the circumstances, transfer your DPR to a subsequent litter, due within 1 year of the original expected litter.
2. If there are no subsequent litters planned, due, or with available pups in this time period, we will consider a refund, only if there were not enough pups - either sex, or no litter.
C) If there is any transfer or cancellation in a litter:
1. the breeder reserves the right to find a replacement reservation for that same pick position that becomes available in such a case.
2. We reserve the Right to Cancel a reservation (very rare) for cause
a. when we feel there has been misinformation given on your part
b. errant, or mis-, communication is given such as timing, pup choice position, etc.
c. misleading us as to who you are or purpose of adopting a pup
D) Forfeiture of Deposit
Generally, though very, very, rarely, a DPR may be forfeited for cause, such as:
1. your not doing due diligence prior to making a deposit reservation
2. changing your mind, finding a different pup or parents, etc.
3. Life Issues: While we understand some extreme family issues can occur, and you feel there is the need of deciding not to, or not being able to, follow through with an adoption.
4. No Response: Unfortunately, we’ve had this happen! Not responding to our emails in a timely fashion may (may) result in reservation forfeiture; and/or, a change in your pick order.
a. Please confirm with us any unavailable period of time PRIOR to your DPR!
b. We haven’t heard back from you within 2-4 weeks of an email update, we may (may) consider your reservation abandoned.
4) Multiple Pups Discount
A) Conditional discount
1. $200 Discount, $100 for each pup, when reserving two pups from the same litter
a. $100 Discount total for Two pups from different litters
2. Once a litter is whelped, for mult pups DPR, DPR's are not refundable for any reason.
5) Picking (Choice) / PickUP:
A. Pick Position: Please note that NorCal Goldens reserves the right to 1st pick male and/or female of any litter. This may affect any pick position indicated by us to anyone reserving a pup. A pick position indicated by us is NOT a promise or guarantee of that pick position.
1. If we choose to exercise this right, we don't do this until the pups are about 7 weeks old. This doesn't happen often.
B. Scheduling: At around 4-6 weeks, we will schedule with everyone their picking / pickUP timing. At scheduling, you will have your pick position confirmed. See notes above about approximate indication of pick position upon making a deposit reservation.
C. Combined: We combine picking and pickUP so that there is only one (1) trip required for both picking and pickUP. You will see all the pups interact in the various videos we post as they age.
1. We do email video links and photos approximately each week of development with colored collars on them starting at about 3-1/2 weeks, so you can get a pretty good idea of who’s who.
D. PickUP time: We have found the timing needed for picking / pickUP is usually a maximum of an hour, and we schedule everyone based on that. Most only take 20-40 minutes. This allows for reviewing any questions you may have about anything, taking care of the contract (if not emailed) and payment, meeting us and the pups parents (if desired) and sometimes the grandparents; and interacting with the pups.
1. If for some reason you feel you need more time, we will make sure you reasonably get the time needed; and, though it is rare, ask everyone on pickUP day for patience, as sometimes people can also be late due to traffic or weather.
E. PickUP days: Thursdays and Fridays are usually great days to pickUP as it gives you the full weekend to get settled in. We realize most everyone works and this may not be possible, but keep this in mind if you are able to take a day off. Otherwise, pickUPs are usually on a Saturday, spread out to a Sunday afternoon if there are a lot of pups; and, so the pups don't get quite as worn out.
F. PickUP: is at, or close to, 8 weeks of age. May be subject to size of litter; e.g., small litters may go a few days earlier; larger ones sometimes stay a bit longer; subject to our discretion.
1. If you can't pickUP on or within a day or two of the general pickUP timing; we can Kennel a pup, preferably pre-arranged at least a week in advance, and daily charges do apply, as well as possible additional cost of shot(s) and worming(s), depending on the pups age. We understand that sometimes people have a vacation already planned, and we can usually arrange a stay of about a week, but this does need to be known / approved well in advance.
2. Kenneling with us is however generally discouraged - the sooner they can get with their "new human", the better they will bond. Prime bonding time is between 7-16 weeks.
6) Disputes:
A. Jurisdiction / Venue: Any party related to making this Deposit Purchase Reservation shall be considering having entered into the above agreement in the current locational jurisdiction in which this business lies, at the time of a dispute. It is agreed by any party that any and all disputes arising from this agreement shall only be resolved in a court within that jurisdiction, the Small Claims Division of that court.
7) Kenneling:
Please note that it is very rare that we can offer this! We have in the past up to a couple of weeks, but it is very hard, if even possible.
Kennel per day fees start the last day of the 2 to 3 day "normal pickUP timing" when pups are approximately 8 weeks old, as follows:
(days are noon to noon, or any portion thereof)
1. 1st 5 days - $40/day; 6-10 days - $45/day; 11+ days - $50/day
2. Shot or Worming (required at 9 & 12 weeks old if here being kenneled): $35/ea

2) 2-3 wee-wee pads for your trip home; or, your initial time at home
3) a new tennis ball - pups and mom have a few they have played with
4) depending on availability, a new 10" to 12" knotted rope. They have played with one.
5) Two (2) 200 + page color Golden Retriever Book(s) covering Grooming, Training, Health Care, First Aid, Nutrition & Feeding as a downloadable pdf after you make a deposit reservation
6) lots of information, experience, and recommendations; follow-up contact if needed - email best.
7) our constantly updated web site. Also emails, and your contract will have anything documented that we discuss with you about your pup adoption - as well a lot of photos & videos.
8) We provide pdf's, or hard copies, of the AKC Parents' AKC registrations and pedigrees with the contract. These are AKC registerable pups (though by far most don’t register them; and, is subject to our conditions listed in “AKC Puppy Registration” information below and the time limits of AKC). If registered, it is only initially limited registration; again, see below under "AKC Puppy Registration".
In Addition:
1) Proven quality in raising and adopting our pups since 2000
2) Gorgeous pup coat colors ranging from:
A) Light / English Cream - both dam & sire pure English Cream;
B) "Mocha Cream” (though typically virtually identical to Light English Cream) - dam is english cream & sire is a dark golden - pups start out with a "creamy peach/apricot" highlighting, but usually turn mostly english cream (lighten);
C) Dark Golden - both dam & sire are dark goldens - pups are generally dark with some ending up the deep dark red golden that is highly sought after - unfortunately, hard to come by!
3) Coats range from thicker, though flatter than "normal" (english creams), to a less thick, shiny flat coat (dark goldens)
A) ALL our coats tend to have less shedding than the AKC standard medium golden you will see in most AKC events. The dark goldens tend to have the least shedding.
4) We have on-site parents and some grandparents, even a GREAT grandparent (Rufus right now - 13 plus years!) Some are retired with other homes (unfortunately we can't keep every one of our adults), but any that are here can be viewed, ears scratched, and tennis balls thrown for! - these are our pets and get 24/7 pampering
5) Written health guarantee - see our health page(s) in the contract and on our web site
6) Shots / Worming: we give them a 1st 5-way vaccination primarily for Parvo at 5 weeks and a 2nd one at 7 weeks of age. Generally pups should have an additional 5 or 7-way shot every 2 -3 weeks thereafter, up to age 16 weeks. They are also given 2 5-day wormings/parasite treatments at approximately 3, and 6 weeks and/or as needed. All this is documented for you on your contract for your records and so your vet knows what and when they were medicated.
7) Health - Many of the relatives of our parents, grandparents, and further back have OFA & CERF in their backgrounds / history for eyes, heart, elbows, hips; several pups that our adoptees have gone on to breed have gotten OFA or CERF certifications. NONE of our parents have had any problems, and NO Cancer, since breeding / adoptions started in 2000. Do see our health page(s) on our web site for more information about this to understand the very confusing and questionable meaning that many other breeders use of ANY “certification(s)” and why we do not engage in this but have been able to rely on the history of our golden parents.
8) Pups have mellow & obedient backgrounds as well as some with the additional hunting background - mostly from our darker parents. Generally bred for mellow temperament and obedience; great with kids and other pets. With other pets, you do need to cautiously introduce each other.
9) Standard breed size to a bit smaller, leaner, and muscular / low-fat body build on both parents; darker goldens especially can be a bit smaller with our two smaller female dams - Jasper & Brandy.
10) Male sires are DNA tested and registered with AKC for your assurance of the AKC and ancestral lineage of the pups you are adopting
11) Family raised and well socialized with our three (3) kids and other dogs; and, as well - two "golden retriever tormenting" cats.
12) We also do specific socialization similarly based on Socialization methods explained by Carmen L Battaglia - see article at this website: https://breedingbetterdogs.com/article/early-neurological-stimulation
13) PARTIALLY to MOSTLY HOUSEBROKEN!!! No, this isn't guaranteed, but we've had fantastic reports when the setup we have at our kennel is recreated as best as possible at their new home. We provide information on how to do this the best way to achieve this result with illustrations and photos sent after making a reservation. They are usually well on their way to being potty trained. We raise the pups from day 1 to reinforce housebreaking routines.
14) Web site follow-up care, modified crate training, basic obedience
15) Note: We do NOT remove dew claws - how would you like one of your fingernails yanked out at 3 days old!!! This is NOT required by AKC for any showing or otherwise. It has become less common. Some reasons for this relate to hunting and field training. Sometimes, if the dew claw grows abnormally, it may have to be removed later - VERY uncommon!
16) As a breeder under the USDA "Animal Welfare Act" we are classified as an "Exempt Business" - Anyone who sells domestic pets directly to pet owners is exempt, regardless of sales volume, when picked up face to face or may be sight-unseen when the breeder has 4 or fewer breeding females. Such sales can be made via internet, in person, or by mail. Other state regulations may apply and more information on this is provided to or reviewed by you, with your contract as required and applicable.
AKC Puppy Registration:
1) Each puppy adoptee is provided at pickUP with the AKC pedigrees and registration numbers of the parents as proof of the pups being purebred from AKC parents and showing their lineage for 3-5 years. This is also what you get when / if you were to register your pup with AKC, sometimes in a different format than what we provide. The main reasons for AKC registration of your pup is usually for showing or breeding and 90-95 percent of our adoptees do not register their pups.
2) We may provide an AKC puppy registration form for registering your pup with "limited" registration (meaning a "pet" - not intended for show or breeding). This would occur when it is neutered or spayed after it is in your home at the earliest of approximately 14 months age.
There is a fee of $230 per pup (payable to grpupp@gmail.com via Zelle). There may be an AKC late fee required, depending on when you desire to register. You are responsible for any other AKC registration fees, payable directly to AKC, when you register your pup. We will forward your pup limited registration form once the litter is registered with AKC and we receive back the registration forms.
3) If you desire an AKC registration form for your pup, it must be requested with proof of spaying or neutering at this timing. We may provide a pup limited registration form once the litter is registered with AKC and we receive back the registration forms. Note this process can take a few days, or a month or more.
4) If full registration for breeding is desired; or, limited registration for some reason for your particular pup (e.g., the pup becoming a service dog), the same request must be made; however, you must have conveyed and discussed this interest with us in emails, prior to reserving your pup.
In the case for breeding, a pup is still initially given limited registration as indicated above. Full registration may be given pending favorable comprehensive health tests at 24 - 26 months of age. Full Registration / Breeding rights, if granted, do require additional breeder fees, the cost of changing the limited to full registration, medical costs, etc.; and are the responsibility of the Buyer in order to obtain full registration and/or to breed. A pup suitable for breeding is not guaranteed, and full registration may be denied by the breeder for any or no reason and/or pending any information deemed questionable by the breeder related to breeding your specific pup.
All terms related to AKC registration are subject to change with current terms at the time of desired registration. Any registration is not guaranteed and subject to the discretion of the breeder.
5) Our ONLY affiliation with AKC, as with most Breeders, is utilizing them as a registration service which provides you, the adoptees, proof of pedigree (being a purebred golden) and lineage (their ancestry); and, the opportunity if desired to possibly register your pup, or move on to show or breed with AKC.
We do not have any AKC "kennel name" nor does AKC have any obedience, lineage, health, testing, certification, or similar requirements to "just" breed and register any pups from dogs that are registered with them. AKC does have various "programs" that breeders can join which generally paints themselves as faux "professional breeders". We do not subscribe to any of these. Our goldens are our family members as well, we are not in this to gain notoriety or breed "designer goldens”.
Our 24 plus years of doing this with lots of referrals and 2nd and 3rd pups adopted by previous adoptees says we are doing something right!.
The only AKC requirements for basic breeding registration purposes are that the dams and sires must be AKC registered in order to register pups from any litter; and, a sire that is bred for 4 or more litters must have an AKC DNA test number. We DO meet both these requirements for all our parents.
