… A few notes about retiring Goldens …

We now have more reasoning for retiring some of them as we are planning shortly to move out of California, most likely to Northern Idaho. We plan to possibly continue breeding, passing the baton on to our children that have been part of the breeding process over the last years.

Unfortunately for us, fortunately for you, this does give us more reason that we must retire some of our cherished adult goldens, that have been our friends and part of our family, for over 25 years.

We have been very blessed with great goldens, even greater families that have adopted the pups over a span of 22 plus years; many of which have adopted 2nd, and even 3rd pups from us (thank you!)

All that said, our main goal is to find them great homes, preferably in the greater Northern California, Southern Oregon, Western Nevada area, but any potential homes will be considered. Specifics on the TYPE of home environment each adult needs are included below - this is probably one of the most important aspects you need to consider. Also, their availability; e.g., if you aren’t ready to actually take in a retiring adult, and it IS available immediately, we’d prefer you not inquire we spend quite a bit of time analyzing your situation you give us, and responding to it.

Each adult will have various personality traits that we try to convey to you ahead of time

to give you that initial idea as to whether it will be a good fit.

We will want you to come visit us first and meet the prospective golden. We MAY be able to let you bring another female dog you anticipate it being with, but can’t let another male dog here as our males “go nuts”!. BUT, a note on that - male or female dogs that have been bred will tend to be best off as the only dog, though may be fine with another female dog, or with a pup. We have had several retiree’s go with a pup from us to their new home (and we do have a few pups available currently!) A male retiree especially can NOT be with another adult male dog; possibly another female, or a pup, either sex. Younger male dogs we might retire, can be more flexible on this, once they are neutered.

Once a retiree leaves us, we highly discourage any "trial period”. We’d rather you think about it and then revisit in a few days. Most know if it is a good match when you visit, including us (and we would discourage any adoption if there wasn’t a good match). Also, most importantly, they are Goldens, and readily bond with everyone.

(Also, once one of our goldens leaves, it is very hard for us to reintroduce them back into

our family, our goldens' living  arrangements, and generally with the other remaining goldens. It is better for you to come a couple times for a couple hours if needed, to make sure, though most "just know" when they meet the adult!)

We also strongly encourage (albeit, require) that no pet additions be made to your family

for roughly a year after you take in one of our adult goldens. This is to make sure

they fully bond with YOU as their "new human".

Fenced areas ARE necessary, and generally required by most jurisdictions -

it IS the responsible thing to do - moreso to protect your golden.

Lots of space (land) is great, but not necessary. We have a lot of our Golden pups go to apartments in San Francisco and they are thriving as adults. That said, our adults are used to a fair amount of space.

Most are very content being "couch potatoes" in THEIR favorite cushy chair,

or under your office desk and feet!

Some are equally / dually content to then go hunting or camping with you.

All of our goldens have been around kids (we have a 6 year old boy, and 9 and 10 year old girls.

If you have kids, this is actually a plus, though the goldens are content in most

any situation, but do REQUIRE a tennis ball be thrown for them at least once every other day!

When expressing interest initially, please give us as much information about yourselves and how

you think a particular golden that might be available would fit into your family.

There is an adoption fee for an adult depending on their age, and sometimes we have a list of interested people, so we do need as much info from you as possible to help finding the best fit.

In general, you are required to have them spayed or neutered within a short period after taking them in.

BUT

our main goal is to find the best retirement home for them, so don't let cost be a factor.

Available Adults - none:

We would like to find any golden we are retiring a new home sooner than later,

WHEN there is one available, so please keep that in mind.

If there is a delay in availability, it will indicate this under each listing.

When contacting us, please know if you are ready based on the availability; and,

that you are ready to commit, assuming the retiring golden is a good match for you. Thanks.

Retiring Females (1) ….

MASHA- 07.10.19 - just turned 3 years old … RETIRED October, 2022

Pet Fee: $1100

05 masha

Masha is from our now retired Tinkerbell and Maximus. We have her brother Rufus Jr.; both from the same litter. . She is very healthy and had her last litter at the end of 2021. We are retiring her early because of our reduction in breeding in general. She is a very loving golden, immediately bonding with everyone, very content and obedient to stay anywhere she needs to be. She will sometimes wait at a gate, or her kennel gate, to get permission to go in! Of course she loves balls, but won’t compete for one if others are joining in. She loves water, but will immediately stop before going in, again, to get permission … unless it is just too hot! She will only bark if a deer goes by, or a stray dog wanders by, but it is more of a warning to them, and a notificaiton to us. She if very content by herself. She is with Snowflake about a third to half the time she is outside and/or sleeping at night, but also sleeps alone much of the time. She is ready for visits now. We recommend you peruse her litter page to see a video or two of her “in action” as well on on the parents page.

Breeding or Retiring Male ….

Angus - 11.01.16 - almost 3 years old

Angus

Availability: Immediate

Pet Fee: $1650

For Breeding / Stud Fee: $3000

Angus is grandson of Rufus, and son of Tinkerbell. He has sired two litters of pups with our Mattie and Snowflake - 13 total pups. He has a great disposition and submits somewhat to a fault. He is great on a leash with our young children. He LOVES to play catch and chase a tennis ball. He LOVES to jump in the pool after a tennis ball - sometimes even if you “fake” a throw! He tends to “hide” when you use a hose (most dogs do), but otherwise loves the water. He either barks when greeted, or just looks at you and says a silent hi! … It just depends on the person. The bark greeting is usually when he is with another golden. He is very lean like his grandpa and has a similar flat, though somewhat thicker during winter, coat to that of his Mom Tinkerbell.

As a pet he would make a great companion as he loves to just lay around most of the day, but can immediately summon plenty of energy for a tennis ball round, swim, or hike. He would best situated where he has some yard he can call his, run a bit in, and just slumber in. He would also be fine indoors most of the time, but should have some access to the outside; perhaps just on walks may work.  He loves to watch TV through our daughter’s window during the day when she is at home. He prefers Star Trek Voyager and the cartoon series “Oscar” on netflix!

We would prefer a home WITH ONE female dog (of course a golden would be great!). We would be very hesitant to consider a home with another male dog - it mike work after you fix him, but could be a difficult transition in such a case. He would probably be fine with a cat - ours jumps on him, and he tends to be a “scardy-“dog”” when it comes to cats!

For Breeding Interests:

As a breeding dog, if you desired this, we also want him to be your pet and family member. He has sired 13 beautiful healthy pups and would  make a great stud dog, as well as a pet. His background is Canadian English Cream Golden from his grandpa Rufus; European English Cream Golden from his Grandma Willow; and, his dad is Maximus, our prized dark golden who heralds from Golden Glen kennels in Anderson, CA known for their obedience champion dark goldens, but sadly they no longer breed.

We do charge more for a breeding dog as you would quickly make back any cost with one or two litters, depending on the mom of course. The reason is this helps insure you are making an investment versus just getting a dog to make pups! Our only reason for retiring from our lines is that we have too many dogs right now (6) and really can only handle about 4 to 5.

Angus video taken on 8/20/19 …

the kids are good Angus “wearer-outers”; and, admittedly, Angus helps wear them out for bed!

Angus video taken on 8/3/19 …

he “hates” the pool and green tennis balls as you can see!

Retiring Female ….

Tinkerbell - 05.02.14 - 5.5 years old

Pet Fee: $1050 ($550 if taking her with a pup)

2016-07-18 07.51.53

Penny(Pepper) - 5 years old

2014-12-20 15.03.25 2016-08-16 10.58.36

Video of Penny (click)

(She is the lighter of the two dark goldens in the video)

Penny is the great granddaughter of our original / first golden we ever bred - Chloe. You can see Chloe's info on the Parent page, along with Penny's grandma - Buttercup, and mother-Chooey. Chooey is still going strong at her retirement home, that also adopted grandma Buttercup.

Penny has great lineage is very smart, and extremely sweet, and loves to just be with you, almost to a fault, like her somewhat darker mom Chooey. Penny has a small muscular frame much like her mom and the musculature of her dad, our English Cream sire, Rufus, currently 11 years old.

Penny will be best in a home with no other pets; possibly another female or male golden. We would only consider another home with any other other pets except a golden if your home seemed like an exceptional situation for Penny. Penny sometimes does get bored. She if fine being left alone, though should be left with a hoove, bone, or rope toy. She LOVES to please. She does swim, though tends to be "shy" and not outgoing related to swimming or ball throwing, etc. if there are other dogs around. She may be fine with a cat, though our cats tend to taunt her, and the other goldens, so she had learned to bark at them.

Adoption Cost:

As a pet - $1600; we've lowered this from our normal "same cost to adopt a pup" due to her needing to be spayed.

"PennyPepper"- {04.15.12}  Medium Dark Golden; Daughter of Chooey and Rufus; Parents -  no health problems; the best of the English Cream and Dark Golden lineage; boxy heads;  bred with Maximus for a somewhat smaller leaner frame, darker coloring, the long flat silky coats with about half the shedding of the english creams, and mellow obedience oriented temperament and trainability; great disposition; about 60 pounds; easily trained also for hunting & obedience

SNOWFLAKE - 09.12.16 - almost 6 years old

Pet Fee: $700

Snowflake has been a great golden as part of our family. She is very healthy and had her  last litter on New Years Day, 2022 …  at midnight, power out, 3 feet of snow! She and her pups did great, but she said, “I’m ready for some R & R!. She will be ready for a visit most any time. We recommend you peruse her litter page to see a video or two of her “in action” as well on on the parents page. She is mellow, but with plenty of “ball chasing” energy, and loves to romp around the lawn like a little kid. She is very keen to birds / ducks / chickens, though has never hunted them. She is a bit more “stocky” than our other English Cream goldens, coming from European Lineage of english cream goldens. She came to us from a breeder of english creams in Alabama and she has a beautiful wavy coat; somewhat fluffy, but a flatter english cream coat. She is content relaxing most of the day, barking rarely except if she wants to remind you to play with her, somewhat rarely and  toward early evening. She loves to swim, though also content just watching swimmers. She loves to roll on her back, chase a ball, but sometimes doesn’t want to bring it back! She is content by herself, with our children, or with other goldens
